Well, here it is. The pulpit at Trinity Church in Newport, RI. I had wanted to take a picture of the back stairs leading up to it while I was there this morning, but I forgot. Or at least, I didn’t think it would be appropriate to pull out my iphone during the service to take pictures, which is when I thought to do it. (Not that anyone would really see me behind the pulpit, but I refrained anyway.) So this is a picture that I pulled of Google, but it will give you the general idea.
Can you tell how high it is?? Or how big and scary that block of wood is that hangs treacherously over your head when you step into the pulpit? It’s wild to be up there. But I won’t lie – I loved it. Because I totally fulfilled a dream today being in that pulpit. You can listen to the sermon here. I’m really grateful to Anne Marie Richards, once seminary classmate and now my colleague in ministry, for giving me the chance to be at Trinity today for Homecoming Sunday!
